Testing
What is testing? Testing is how a skater will move up through the levels. All skaters will move up at different rates. It is natural for a skater to not always pass a test on their first try. Parents should not compare their skater’s journey to another skater’s journey.
When skaters first start out in learn to skate, a skater will be tested during the last class of the semester. If they are proficient at all of the skills in their level, they will move up to the next level. Learn to Skate has the following levels: Snowplow Sam, Advanced Snowplow Sam, Basic 1-6, Pre Free Skate, Free Skate 1-6.
After Learn to Skate, skaters will continue with testing in order to move up through the levels. Skaters will sign up for either an in person or a virtual test session when their coach feels that they are ready to take a test. Skaters at our club typically test in the following disciplines: Singles, Skating Skills, Pattern Dance with Partner, and Solo Free Dance. US Figure Skating uses tests as a prerequisite for competition and testing in the different disciplines give skaters continual goals to reach. When a skater passes the final test in each discipline, they will earn the distinction of becoming a US Figure Skating Gold Medalist.
